In preschool penguins, we focus on developing the skills that children need in order to have an enjoyable and memorable transition into mainstream school. We place importance on the social and physical development of each child as well as their academic success and aim to produce well-rounded, polite and happy children with the tools to cope with impending school life and education.
Our curriculum has been tailored to include the needs of the large number of children here who speak English as a second language. This has meant that although the curriculum is taught in English, non-native speakers are at no disadvantage and are given the extra help to progress to the level of their peers and are capable of communicating and learning in English. We loosely follow the British curriculum in preparing children of age 3+ for Primary School with lessons in Numeracy, English (comprehension, phonics, storytelling), basic concepts of Science (forces, danger, weather etc),
Art, ICT without forgetting both indoor and outdoor play. By the time children leave the preschool Penguins class, they will have been exposed to things such as sight words (begun reading), be able to complete addition and subtraction using different methods (number lines, cubes, counting backwards), be aware of their bodies and environments and be able to communicate successfully in English to adults and other children.
