Learning through Play and the Early Years Foundation Stage

Each day we ensure that your child’s activities have been specifically planned and organized to ensure that they are appropriate to your child’s individual needs and specific to your child’s age group. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and by doing so we ensure that your child receives the best possible start on their road to learning in a stimulating and encouraging setting.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum is split in to six key areas:

Personal, social and emotional development
Communication skills, language and literacy
Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy (Mathematics and Numeracy)
Knowledge and Understanding the World
Physical Development
Creative Development

Each of these areas has a set of stages that progress towards early learning goals and targets and we coordinate and plan activities which will meet the diverse needs of each individual and ensure that they are properly prepared for starting school.

We actively encourage learning through play and ensure that we include activities that involve each of the above areas to ensure that we are providing every child with a broad and balanced curriculum. We will support and encourage your child throughout their time at Nursery, and we keep a record – in the form of an Early Learning Journey Book which monitors there development and ensures all of their needs are met. We actively encourage parents to come to the Nursery and look at these records and add comments should they wish to.  We also encourage parents to work in partnership with the staff to ensure their child receives the best care and that we maintain a consistent approach.
